Growing Up Online

Posted by Ailin Li in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:32 am

The TV show we watched in class is Growing Up Online.

This show was about teens being obsessed and overly using their phones, going online, and what they did online. It was also about how teens were being attacked online and those who attacked them.

The most memorable thing to me about this show was the fact that teens did everything you wouldn’t ever expect for them to do online. It was like they were living two lives. One in the real world and another online.

It is important to watch shows like this so you can get a visual image of what society was like before and what it will be like now if we continue our live’s always on online and on our phones/laptops/computers. It is also important to watch shows like this so you know what to avoid and what to do.

I will keep my future family safe online by allowing them to go online and posts things as long as they don’t have any inappropriate pictures of themselves or any negative things being said or put out there.

It is important to talk with your family about internet safety because you want to protect your family from what bad things happening online and so they don’t end up with situations online with others and/or themselves.

Advice I would you give to parents that don't know how to keep their children safe online is that to make sure that your child/children knows exactly what they’re doing online, who will see it, how they address things, and what to not do because one wrong mistake can lead to so many problems.

Growing up Online/Digital Nation - Mindy Saw

Posted by Mindy Saw in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:30 am

The TV show we watched in class was Digital Nation from WHYY.

  1. This show was about teens and their life online and the comments/opinions that the adults had about it.

  2. The most memorable thing to me about this show is how much effect the internet has on people especially teens.

  3. It is important to watch shows like these because it allows you to see what’s not obvious to some people in detail. It is not important to watch shows like these because even though we see these things happening because of the internet, we still do the same thing. We don’t stop.

  4. I will keep my future family safe online with the ability of trust and help from each other when in need.

  5. It is important to talk to your family about internet safety because it can lead to a lot of bad things that’ll bring you yourself into the whole situation.

           6.   I would give them advice about one little post can lead a huge situation/problem so they should

                 think before they post.

U2 - Growing Up Online : Gregory Tasik

Posted by Gregory Tasik in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:28 am

  1. We watched Growing Up Online in class today.

  2. This show was about how technology has affected our daily lives.

  3. The most memorable thing about this show to me was the fact that a kid refused to read a full book and would rather read spark notes. I was speechless when I saw this because books are an amazing medium and should be appreciated more.

  4. It is important to watch shows like these because they inform you about things you may have not heard before. Also, shows like these give you real life experiences which you can relate to.

  5. I will keep my future family safe online by educating and informing my family on the dangers of the internet. Also, I may invest in a software (if there is any) that protects my computers and technology.

  6. It is important to talk to my family about internet safety because they should know the positives and negatives of using technology. We use technology everyday and we must have some knowledge on its capabilities before using it.

  7. To parents who don’t know how to keep their children safe online, I would advise them to watch shows like Digital Nation, Growing Up Online, and to find articles on Google. These documentaries are very informational and parents could learn a lot from them.

Growing Up Online

Posted by Grant Shuter in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:23 am

We watched a video about how technology affects teens. It was about how certain systems of technology work in different settings and how to make those settings better using this technology. The most memorable thing about the show was the fact that it was so relatable. We are all teens now and the systems of technology are relatable because we use so much. It is important to watch these videos because we need to know how to use our technology in the best way possible. It is important for parents and children to have conversations about this topic because of the fact that parents are supposed to guard their kids, and while online, it makes it harder to do so. I would tell parents to let their kids know that anything they put online can affect them in a huge way so to beware of that.

Digital Nation - Andrew Rodebaugh

We saw a movie called Digital Nation. It is about our life being affected by our internet life. The most memorable part is the creepy guy that made 2nd life. He is trying to make this other life that you can go to and be another person. I do not think it is important watching these shows. They are just restating what you already know and saying you are such a bad person. Declaring the internet is the most evil thing ever existed. I will keep my future family safe by not allowing social network and add the rule my parents gave me that states we can only create online also talk often about there safety online. It is very important to talk to your family about internet safety because, this is the present and the future they must be safe. I would tell the parents to see where your child goes online but, do not stalk them.

Final Slide Design

Posted by Kamil Kielar in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 8:14 pm

Untitled presentation
1.) From the criticism I had received I had learned a lot more about what my slide should look like and how I was to present it. The first thing that I was told was that the color on the slide where far too bright and did not go well together. I had two colors as my background and I was told had it should only be one which is why I had changed that. Also my slide had multiple pictures on it and was all over the place and I had to stick with a single topic which is what I did. In my old slide I had many pictures that were all different colors which brings me to the last piece of criticism. I was told that it would be much simpler and neater to have one big picture that shows my topic quickly instead of having multiple ideas on the slide.

2.)The first change I had made was the color because before it was bright and slightly difficult to read so I had changed it to something darker so if I put white writing it would stand out more. I had gotten rid of all my pictures because I felt as if they didn't go with my main idea. My old slide did have a title but I saw that it was better to put large words that had meaning to them because it gave to the reader something to think about what kind of person I am.

Finalized Slide

Posted by Marcin Czapla in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 6:32 pm

1. What I learned from the critique of my slide was that simplicity is sometimes better then making something more complicated, and since my slide was very simple they enjoyed that aspect of it, so I decided to keep it that way. Something I did learn while presenting though was that I should pick a different color soccer ball, or one that would not blend in with the background since it was hard to see. One more thing that I was told to change was the way my word were placed. I was told to make them outline the soccer ball, so that it would look nicer.

2. The reason why I decided to make the soccer ball have a black outline is again, so that it would not blend into the background. The reason why I decided to make the words that describe me outline the soccer ball was to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

Final Slide Design

1. What I learned from the critique of my slide was that my old slide didn't look clean or nice because the pictures weren't aligned. The slide had spots of my background everywhere so I had to cover those up. They also said that I should give the background a color so it can blend into the pictures. I also make the words bigger and aligned it directly in the middle of the slide. They also gave me recommendations for anime pictures to add.

2. I agreed that the slide had some problems. The aligned of everything was so off and looked very sloppy. I also agreed when they said that the color around my name was bland so I changed the color to make it look nice.

Nile Ward Reflection and Second Slide

Posted by Nile Ward in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:16 pm

After taking in the critique, I learned that having a slide full of pictures is distracting to some, so I decided to use a picture with a plain background, and then, because the original solid white background hurt my eyes, and the eyes of others, against the gradient grey/black background, I took out that background all together.  This will offer more focus on the clean, sparkly car instead of the background of my previous image. The transparent image will also allow for more empty "breathing" space, so you don't only see the background with the lawns and driveways and the hose... I also received critique on the call-to-action font, which was dark and hard to see before. In this slide, I used a brighter font for my call-to-action, so it was visible against the dark background. I removed the testimonial and moved the call-to-action up where it would be more visible. The blue font also hints at the fact that this slide is about car detailing. Blue was a cool color, and car detailing is a "cool" activity. The blue could also mean water, and car detailing uses water, too.

Reflection
I was told that i should get rid of some pictures because there was too much going on. I got rid of pictures and kept what i felt was most important to me. I was told that the quotes were hard to read so I typed them instead of having them as a photograph. I made these changes to my slide to make it easier to look at and and make it a bit more organized. Also from looking at other peoples slides I noticed that they kept it simple and to the point, so i decided to make my slide simpler.
