Reflection Tech "Me Mag" Slide!

Posted by Zoey Tweh in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y1 on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 10:33 pm

After receiving the constructive criticism from my classmates and Ms.Hull I came to a few realizations. The challenge of the project is to be clear what I'm generally about in a very clear concise message be it through images and/or text. As well a big part in this is the color scheme making sure that everything flows together and is consistant so that  the product is both eye catching and that the audience focuses on the message without imperfections serving as distractions. I also learned that putting in an original piece can also help a lot too. As well the background image also has to follow the rules of design too and should be symetrical.

I basically started over completly. I decided that the first thing to address is simplicity so I made the background black.  Then I addressed my priorities in the billboard and went from there. For my unique piece I chose my name and added it with a priority:photography, so I edited and cut out my name from a photo . Then I edited and cropped out four other symbols representing multiple priorities and placed them where it seemed appropriate to fill in the space.

I learned from my critique that I should have used more contrasting colors and bigger letters. I used black and white because they are contrasting colors, I deleted pictures that I felt were crowding my slide, and I enlarged my name so that it would be more eye-catching.

From the critique I received, I saw that my picture has a lot of potential, but needs more effort. They (my critiquers) noted that some of the objects were covering up others, so I cropped some things out.

Me Magazine Slide, Lucien Hearn

Me Magazine silde

When I started making this project,  I thought that I would go with a cinematic approach, but soon realized that as I continued making the project, I kept moving farther away from this, finally ending up with a product semblant of a flag. In the picture of the woman, it's bleeding on both the upper and right sides. I changed the opacity of each statement as to show the viewer what was more important to focus on. I’m happy with how this turned out because it looks good design-wise.

Color: I love purple so the microphone is purple and everything else kind of stuck with the red, black, and yellows from the background picture. I also put in white to be bold and kind of elegant.

Size: I made the fonts 36 to be large and legible for the pyramids. Cinematography is also size 36 font but not in Georgia font instead POiret One to appear a little bigger and appear almost as creative and sophisticated as the art form itself. My name is the biggest its size 92 and Poiret font to appear important and structured but not so that its Times New Roman. The Italian at the end translating to the art of cooking is size 48 in Corsiva font because it should be big since my background and my passions include food. This word should be treated as it is valued so it is large and elegant.

Words as Shapes: As said before often while coinciding with words represent what they meant. I tried to not only capture the definition of the word but what it means to me.  The two pyramids are like Maslow's hierarchy of needs, what I value separated by priority. To the right are my relationship essentials. Those are things I take very seriously but also can be very fun and free so Georgia font finds the best meat in the middle font and also coincides with the pyramids showing which relationship is most prioritized. To the left is the more hobby related pyramid which I made upside down to do something a little different with the readers eyes as well in Poiret One font because it's a little more creative. I made sure that the Cloud society is going along with the “fluffy” cloud so I made it also Poiret One font in a burgundy color to blend with the cloud. Cinematography comes across is almost like a stamp on the skillet which is how I feel about myself.

Repetition: I mostly played with repetition in color using the same colors in the skillet and macaroni in the colors of the words. As well in the Stanford logo to keep a consistent theme and make sure most of the aspects blended.

Worry About It: I mainly for this one just edited and edited looking at the piece in presentation form and trying too look at it as if I were an audience member. As well checking over the rules.

ME Magazine

Posted by Waverly O'Neal in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y1 on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11:43 am

The whole idea of my slide is to describe me and my life. It's the main focus therefore I put the title in the middle of the slide and chose subtle contrasting colors so that it is the first thing you look at but doesn't also give you a headache. When you see my picture you will associate my name with it and that will tell you what I look like The size of the pictures are relative to their "importance" in my life. Music is a very important part of my life therefore it's one of the larger pictures. My love for animals is also a huge part of my life. I love dogs and my favorite breed is the husky, which is why I chose a picture of a husky puppy to represent that aspect of my personality. The picture of the shoes represents my passion for shoes. The picture of shoes I have there represent my favorite type of shoe the stiletto heel in my favorite color which is black. My favorite food is chocolate and I could go for some at any time. However, my life doesn't revolve around my love for chocolate, so it is one of the smaller pictures in my slide. The butterfly represents my nickname within my family. They call me butterfly because I'm beautiful but I go through life without a  care and I don't pay too much attention to my surroundings.

IF DANCE IS LIFE THEN MAKE IT COUNT!!!!!!!!
I chose to make my slide like this because if you have a passion for something then you should want to make it feel like this is the last time you can do it. This slide is very creative. I wanted this slide to show how I felt about dance because I know that there is someone out there there who is just like me. This really shows how much I love dance. I wanted to put the pictures of me in the background because of the modeling shoot I had. This is a young lady who have been dancing for 9 years and wanted to show you the type of pictures dancers can take. This influence me to write about dance because of all the years i have been doing it and i feel like this is now something that is apart of me. I want this slide to make you think of dance not just as different types of dance. You should think of it as a way you feel and can show who you are. Enjoy it. IF DANCE IS LIFE THEN MAKE IT COUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me magazine slide
I made the slide look like this to make it look simple and to fit as much information in it as possible without making it too cluttered. My original me magazine influenced the way it currently looks because of the way that it's headed. I made my name twice as big the of the original size. All the colors math with each other and I made sure the font I used went well with the theme I was going for and I used repetition of for each of the text boxes to make them look alike to improve the quality of the slide.

Me Mag (2)
For my magazine i used the insert word art to make my title big and dark for it to stand out. I pasted photos that describe me. I pasted the photos together but not overlapping so you can see a clear image. I tried to cover as much space i can to make it look better. Looking at my slide you would see many different pictures of a certain thing. I made my photo sticking together box like and my name big and bold so you know it's my slide.

Slide Script

1. First, I created a slide and named it "Media Fluency Slide".
2. Secondly, I changed the theme from Simple White to Simple Black.
3. Thirdly, I changed the font to Anton.
4. Then, I typed the words "Step out of your comfort zone".
5. Then, I centered the words in the middle of the slide.
6. Finally, I underlined all the words and put the word "zone" in a bold font.

The purpose of doing this was to make my slide simple, eye catching, and clear. I did not want to add pictures or a lot of words because they are not what my overall message of my "Me Magazine" is. All those words and pictures were going to take the viewers' eyes away from what I am really saying. All of my experiences that I wrote about in my "Me Magazine" happened because I stepped out of my comfort zone, and I want others to receive this message and do the same.
