Antonia Solar- Tech slide 2

Posted by Antonia Solar in Technology - Freshman · Hull · e2 Band on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 9:39 pm

Slide
From the critique of my slide I learned that I was on the right track with the design. Some people suggested changing the background to blue or moving the title to the bottom or just getting rid of the title all together. I asked people what they thought of the changes that I did. The almost everyone said that the original looked better than the new ones.
In the end, I decided to keep my slide just like it is. I decided to do this because people disagreed in the different changes that were suggested and in the end the original was the most pleasing. It is simple but informative and clear to read and understand. The colours pop and the font is big, all elements that are part of design.
My research helped me create a better slide because it taught me concepts of design that I could use to attract more people to my slide. I used colour wheels to pick the colour of my slide and made sure to pick complementary colours that contrasted. I also used presentation Zen and all of the other resources given to me to learn about design. While researching, I even made a list of design elements that I wanted to incorporate in my slide. This made it easier for me to create something that had a good design and showed something about me.

Slide Remix & Reflection

Tech Slide (1)
From presenting my slide to my peers, I received quite the feedback that was very helpful and understandable. There were a couple things I couldn't see in my slide that had been said to me and I thought it was good that someone noticed such a mistake as having a different color text in the same line. In addition, I was able to contact my peers on my revisions that were suggested by them.
As my process continued, I wanted to keep my quote because it was something that gave my slide a meaning but one big change I did was the choice of color. Like before, I previously had a line of text that had different colors and at first, I thought it was going to work out but it threw off my peers' views so I decided that the different colors on the same line had to go. Now I got the advice of using the USB cable to almost have the text wrap against it so that the text isn't 3 straight lines that look boring and uninteresting. Overall, I decided to move the cable image to the left and have still have the readers read from left to right because that is naturally how we read.
Going on, I went in depth for a little more research and I decided to read the entire Slide Design for Developers page and I found crucial things like simplicity, large text, using good colors, etc. So one of the things that related to my peers was the choice of color and I am thankful that my mistake was pointed out after presenting. In addition, I used much larger text before and tilted my text in a way to make the text go with the flow of the cable. Overall, I thought I got some helpful feedback and hopefully my slide is one to remember.

Tech Project_ My Life Slide 2 (1)
After presenting my project to my group members and having to do this again, the thing I was able to learn from my slide overall was falling and getting back up. Now I may not be a master at design and I know that i'm nowhere near it but it's from the mistakes that I make in life that I am able to improve on. No matter what it is that you're doing no one is perfect. Sometimes you have to accept defeat in order to grow.
There were a lot of things that lacked and could have been taken out in my first copy of the slide and i'm glad that I was able to improve those things on this one. In my first slide I had tons of pictures which was the thing I was trying to focus on in my slide but with the amount of pictures I had made it hard to focus on one thing. But in this one I changed that idea around completely. Instead of a bunch of photos I decided to make the background the center of attention with a quote on the side so that it was easier to just read the quote and admire the background. I also added the little pixel figures so I could spice it up a bit with something new.
The research I did helped create a better slide because from it I was able to see new ways I could improve and also ways that appealed to me. For example the quote because I always liked reading quotes and seeing them makes things look better to me. I did not use any sources but I did use google images in order to find the right image for my background. Finding them didn't take that long but making sure that the image wasn't too big or was not transparent took a while. But overall I am happy with what I created.

Tech Design Slide (1)
To be completely honest, I did not learn all that much when I presented. They mostly said the same things over and over again or said something that did not need to be changed. One of the things that  I needed to change, is the tangent between the dog's front feet and the edge of the slide. I rose the dog a bit higher on the slide, but not too high that it going into the top-right corner in the slide. Another thing that they said was that I had to remove the quotation marks around the quote since I already had the name of the person who said that quote, and I don't need the quotation marks. Other than that, they were really no other things that they said to change that I wanted to change.
Researched helped me with my presentation because I learned a lot of words and things I would not have known otherwise. One of those things is the rule of the thrids. I learned that from Presentation Zen. I want everything to be perfectly even and center, so it looks nice. I made a chart (3 by 3) and spread it across the screen so I could place everything according to the rule of the thirds. Also from the Presentation Zen website, I learned about contrast, and how having colors stand out really looks good. I decided to have contrast by having black text (and the dog silhouette) against the white background. That is also why I bolded the word dog, so it would stand out more against the white background. One of the last things I learned and applied to my slide is that empty space is okay. Sometimes, you do not need to fill every little space with words, pictures, etc. Something, it can be simple for people to get the point.
Another website that I used was Presentation Designer. I looked on that website to find the right font, so it could look more clean, sharp and professional. The website said that the font Garamond is clean, sharp, and professional and would look good blown up. That is why I decided to use it. Another website I looked at was Skills You Need. That website said that you should keep it simple; concentrate on the core message. That was kind of said in the Presentation Zen, but this website talked about it in another way. One of the last websites I looked at was the Slide Design for Developers. I used that advice for the size of words and the spacing between words.

When I first started creating my slide for this presentation, I couldn’t figure out which idea I wanted to do. I came across this quote a couple months ago, and I loved how relatable the definition of l’esprit l’escalier was. Since I am the type of person who brain works faster than my mouth, whenever I think of a reply in a conversation that’s a fully formed thought the next topic is introduced and I try to think of something to say, and the whole cycle repeats again. I wasn’t sure which picture I would put, if I wanted to put stairs, the infinity stair design or a ladder. The staircase would make the most sense, since l’esprit l’escalier translates to staircase wit, but the infinte staircase would be a nice touch because of the idea that a perfect conversation is infinite and unimaginable.

All about me

Posted by David Forgrave in Technology - Freshman · Hull · e2 Band on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2:25 pm

All about me (1)

I wanted my slide to look like an electronic billboard and i wanted it to be about the video game section in my me magazine. I love video game they are something i enjoy to do in my free time and something i go to do when i'm feeling down. I also followed on Presentation Zen to be noticed, be read/understood, be remembered, and hope a action is taken or one's thinking is influenced. How I decided to be noticed is to put gifs of video games that I like which are moving pictures I made sure to make the image bleed off so the they can take any space that they can get so it will be noticed and seen. I also put a baby blue background so then the white letters would pop out.

Then I followed instructions from Slide Design For Developers and it said that I need a bright color in the background which stated from the paragraph before is baby blue. It also said that the size of the words for the slide needed to be big so people could see it and notice it. So I made my words and pictures big so everyone could see and notice it very clearly. It also stated that I needed to worry about my slide. What this means is to step into the audience's shoes to see if that your slide is reliable, useful, full of attention and interesting. I hope you enjoy the slide and the script that i made.

Moriah Lahr Hey guys, my name is Moriah. I am 15 years old and was born and raised in Philadelphia. I am an actress. I work with a company called “Yes… And!”. We make plays about controversial topics like racism and sexism. Our last performance was about two months ago at the fringe festival. Also, I sometimes write poems for fun. I'm hoping to go watch some SLAM poetry soon for inspiration. I am artistic. I love painting anything that comes to mind. It’s never anything specific, just mixed colors and patterns. I'm very proud of my painting and I have a bunch hanging on the wall in my room along with photographs I took. One time I sold a picture I took for about $300 in a live auction. One of my favorite things to do is listen to music. I really will listen to music in any situation. I don't have a specific favorite music genre. I will listen to any music besides country and mumble rap. Finally, when I grow up I want to be a book publisher. I want to read books and see if I like them or not and then decide whether or not I want to invest my money in it.

Tech Design Slide

When I was making my slides, I wanted to make mine simple. I do not want to distract the viewer with pictures or words that were unnecessary. I used the rule of the third while making the slide. I made a 3 by 3 chart and then spread it across the whole screen, so I can see where to place pictures/words according to the rules of the thirds. I did not want everything to be at the top or bottom of the screen, so I put certain components in different parts of the slide that would look best. I put the silhouette of a dog in the bottom right hand corner so it does not interfere with the quote. I also wanted to make the words pretty big so it is readable, but not so big that the spacing between the words look off. I bolded the word dog, because that is the most important part of the slide. The slide is showing my love for dogs, and having the word dog bolded makes that word stand out and makes viewers eyes go for it first.

Drawing.

Posted by Xin Yi Zou in Technology - Freshman · Hull · e2 Band on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 8:58 pm

Tech_ 1 Slide
The topic of this slide is my hobby of drawing. Drawing is important to me because it became a way for me to relax and find inspiration. Not only that it helped me find myself after something tragic happened. Because of drawing I learned and rediscovered myself to become the person I am today. The reason why my drawing focus is mostly on flowers or nature because when I see flowers, I see something else too. I see emotions from all different views. For example, when people see sunflowers they will feel happy because of the bright yellow petals surrounding the seeds, but when I see it, I feel a hint of depressed because sunflowers bring happiness, but sadness is the emotion people need to feel happy from. Every flower to me gives me a different vibe and these vibes give me the inspiration to draw them. From my flower drawings, I found my calmness. Everytime I stop and think about my life and how I changed from seeing the darkness to seeing the bright lights again.
My slide gives a very simple and direct reason how drawing is important to me and my usually focus of it. This way give a very general idea of my topic so my slide doesn’t tell my story.  This slide includes an image of a sunflower bleeding off the edge of the slide. The text flowers is in rainbow colors so it’s able to catch the audience attention. The word drawing in this slide is diagonal and the largest font size so the audience can easily tell that the main idea or topic of this slide is drawing. “Where my Inspiration is Found.” is colored in pink and purple so the audience can easily see it. There is a lot of empty spaces in the slide so the images and the text are not crowd.

This is Me!

Tech project
Why I had made my slide look the way it does is because it expresses the way I describe myself. I would describe myself as an athlete. So when you look at my slide it represents the certain sports I am the most proud of being able to be apart of. In  the center I had included one of my favorite quotes that represents me being a athlete. There was a couple things that influenced me while making my decisions on the slide. One of them was making sure I had only one point and not multiple things on the slide that would take me forever to explain. Another thing was the Size of the text and where the quote was positioned which was right in the center. I had placed it there because it would be the center of attention. My focus on my whole slide would be around that one quote. One of the major things that influenced my decision makings was the positions of my pictures used. The bigger the image the more it brings the attention which, was the dancer that bled of the page to show how that was the second biggest thing to look at on the slide. Then the other images are apart of my identity of myself but aren’t as valued. This is why I made my slide the way it looks.
