Net Neutrality // Davis

Posted by Siani Davis in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 8:46 pm

Net Neutrality is the term, used to end, when the people controlling the internet control what you can see and not see. They block certain websites that they feel is inappropriate and/or displeasing. The people who control the internet also control the cost for it. They will “raise” the speed if you start to pay more for it. If you do not start paying more money for your internet then they think it is okay to slow down the rate you are receiving it.

Net Neutrality is very important for teens because we use the internet everyday of our lives. Therefore if companies start to charge more for “faster” speed, that will cause a problem because that will limit the amount of time us teens can actually use the internet. Additionally, teens like to see what they want to see. So if you take this opportunity from them, by blocking sites, it will only create chaos.

Barrack’s opinion on the issue is as stated “there should be no gatekeepers between you and your favorite online sites and services”. Obama stands for Net Neutrality, and he says that only the FCC should be making the decisions not the cable companies.

New slide/ Abuharthieh

Posted by Laith Abuharthieh in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 8:07 pm

I changed my whole slide. At first my slide was very un organized and had too much on it. After the good information I was given just because you have more doesn't mean it is better. I kept mine simple by adding a picture of me in grey, with my name written in lime green with a very big lettering going across the screen to attract viewers. I added that certain picture in the back because most people wouldn't do something like that so it also pushes the viewers attention to my slide.

Net Neutrality (Kara Lazorko)

Posted by Kara Lazorko in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 7:50 pm

To start off,  net neutrality is something that everyone who uses the Internet needs. It is not fair to have certain websites blocked off. The Internet is like a jungle filled with wild things. In that case, those wild things (websites) need to be accessed by certain internet users. For most people, that is not fair.
Net neutrality is important for teens to know about, because it widens their knowledge of the Internet. There may be those people who wonder why they cannot access certain websites. It would be really useful to know about it. Net Neutrality was/ is a giant issue! You cannot ignore what goes on behind something like the Internet that everyone seems to be using.
In conclusion,  net neutrality is not s light topic. It would be useful to those everyday Internet users to know. Specifically, teens use the Internet a log now and these days! So it would be useful knowledge for them. Also, for the school district, the wifi blocks off certain websites from students trying to access them.

Slide Change (Kara Lazorko)

Posted by Kara Lazorko in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 7:11 pm

Tech--Lazorko (2)
I only changed a small portion of my slide, because there was not much I needed to change. As you can probably see, I shifted the word ¨HOPE" a little closer to my face. Other than that, my background and the word are still the same. To start with, my slide already had a deep meaning to it. I felt like one word could have a bigger meaning, then more words with less meaning. So I just experimenting with my ideas.

Johnny's Slide

Technology Slide part 2
I changed everything about my slide. I thought that the old slide didn't look like I put enough effort into unlike this one. I made a whole new design including some of my artwork. The texture is pretty straight forward. I have a huge addiction to Dc universe, I have much pride in mexico, and lastly but not least I really enjoy drawing. I draw whatever my heart feels like drawing, I usually draw whats on my mind or what my surroundings are. You may criticize my artwork, but it won't disprove my courage and confidence I have for myself. After all I have chosen my path, the path I'm going to follow. My path is to surpass god, and the devil you may say I can't do it, but someday I will and prove everyone wrong, I may give up at times, but I'm able to pick myself right up and continue the path I have chosen for myself. No one can take my goal away from me it's the path I have chosen you can only convince me to change it, but can't make me lose that goal.

Seitz - Net Neutrality teen awareness

Posted by Lyle Seitz in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 12:43 pm

I think it is important for teens to know about net neutrality because in the upcoming years the internet will become more prominent in everyday society, and the people of the future will need to know their rights, and shouldn’t be held back from all the opportunities the internet has to offer. Without net neutrality, the internet service providers will be able to tell schools what they have teach their students, and what is appropriate for children to see. If they tell us what we need to know, then they are telling us what is wrong and right, even if what they think is controversial, and may be disagreed on by the majority of the country. For example the issue of Global Warming could be completely braised over by everyone because the i.s.p.’s don’t let websites with information about it through the fire wall.

Another reason why net neutrality is important for teens is because it promotes the spread of ideas, giving more opportunities to today’s youth. Everyones says how we will be the next generation of creators and innovators, but if our main source for information is being held back, then how do they expect us to reach that. If the I.S.P.s want to be part in making the next generation of geniuses, then they should take part in net neutrality. It is important that teens have as many opportunities as their parents, and as generations before. What is the use of the internet if you are restricted from all of the great things that it offers.

Finally a free and open internet promotes free speech. One of the things that all teens should have the opportunity to do, is to speak their minds, and of that is being taken away from todays youth then we will end up with a messed up generation of kids. In twenty to thirty years, imagine a society of people who are being suppressed because they are afraid that if they speak their mind, then it could lead to a punishment, or the put down of your ideas. This is just like the novel 1984, where no one can speak their minds, and no one has a chance to be independent. This is what I imagine could happen to us, this is what people should fear, and we should work on fixing it, for the teens today.

Teens and Net Neutrality: Why we need it (Anderson)

            http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/05/world/asia/05china.html?_r=0

Net neutrality is the rule that all internet is free, you have the same access as anyone else. With the government seeking to take that away, some websites will have to be paid for. This is a problem because most teens like to go on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Companies like Verizon can charge your family more for the use of Netflix if Net Neutrality is no longer a thing. In fact they can block your access to Netflix altogether if you don't pay up. This is a problem because I like many teenagers use Netflix on a pretty much daily basis. It's important for us to stay informed so that we can make noise to tell the government that we do not want this. Teens need to know about net neutrality so they can fight against it.

An example of this is Netflix vs. Verizon. Verizon has it's own movie and tv show viewing thing. A large amount of their customers were using Netflix. They made it so Netflix was pretty much blocked on their TV's. Netflix responded by putting up a warning that basically said "Sorry your internet providers are jerks". This ended when Netflix basically said they had had enough and agreed to pay Verizon. Without Net Neutrality, Verizon could charge even more fro you to use Netflix on your computer.

Countries without Net Neutrality have regulations and blocked websites. There is even a special part of the government that controls the internet. This could be our reality as an American people, to have an agency that's specific purpose is to be a watchdog over the internet. Teens need to be educated on net neutrality so as to know what could be taken away if it the government votes for it to be taken away. The exclusivity of this kind of internet does not help the majority of internet users. Teens must be informed so they can shout make noise and openly oppose a regulated internet.

My New Slide // Burrows

Posted by Elizabeth Burrows in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 2:01 pm

I my new slide, I just did some editing and took the corrections that I was given. I first got rid of my name because it was unnecessary to have on my slide. Then I made my fonts bigger, and centered the picture of the ballerina to enlarge it. I also lined up the words I wrote with my tutu so there was scale in my slide.

Net neutrality, the rules that keep the 'World Wide Web', free and available for everyone to use, for a small fee.
Net neutrality is what makes it so that any regular Joe with a bit of technology knowledge can place their thoughts and ideas out for the world to see. Preserving net neutrality is preserving free speech. Do we want the right of free speech? I think you have your answer why we need net neutrality.

Net neutrality is simply the rich(ISP's) not being able to censor the information that we gather or spread.
We always talk about how countries such as North Korea and China are so awful for censoring what their people say, but aren't we just walking down that path by potentially destroying net neutrality? I think we are. We have the right of free speech and free press. Lets keep it that way.

'We' as teenagers live so much of our lives on the internet. Imagine if the whole internet was like the school filter, we tried to access one of our favorite sites and low and behold its not accessible because of our ISP. Also imagine if when we were on our computer using the internet we had to pay for the amount of data being used and it wasn't just a flat rate. For those of us who stream or play online games or even just watch Netflix, be prepared to have no money in little time. Imagine paying for Netflix and then paying for every minute you were actually using it. Not fun.

Polson, Why teens need to know about net neutrality tech class

Posted by Jamie Polson in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 10:05 am

Teens need to know about net neutrality because we are such a connected world and it is important to know about what we are really doing when we do something.  Net neutrality is making sure that everyone has the same amount of internet.  A good example of this is that a few years ago Google opposed big internet providers to manipulate the company so that they could slow down speed up or do anything with Google.  Google said they never want to be part of an organization that has full control of their organization.
Net neutrality is your computer telling the bits of another computer what to do.  These computers that store all the bits provide the the content.  The ISP's maintain the wires betwteen computers to make sure that they are all connected.  Unfortnatly ISP's can slow certain programs down if they want you to suport something else.  They will also ask you to pay for something that had been free for a very long time because they feel like you owe them and they just want you to pay them.  They also tell you that if you pay you get faster internet which is not true at all!!  You actually get slower internet and the internet you had before you payed is faster than the internet after you payed.

It is important for teens to know all this because fast lanes and net neutrality are all important for us to know because we use media so much.  Fast lanes dont actually exist because the ISP's just made them up for an ecuse to get money from us.  If you want to be safe on the internet don't get anything that says you have to pay for it if it looks shady.  By that I mean if the website doesn't look legidamate or if you don't agree with their polocies than don't do it.
