For my slide I didn't  change much. When I was graded for my slide no one really said to change much but the quotations. So I changed the quotations and everything else is the same because I didn't get that negative feedback. What really sunk in from all the websites I used when making me slide is simplicity is key. In one of my sources it said to keep your slide simple but have it make a statement. That is exactly what I did and I got great feedback on that.

Ethan Slide Improvements

I centered the text to balance it, because I got rid of the name of the person who said the quote, because it was unnecessary.  I also made the text larger, because there is less text, so the remaining text needed to take up more space.  I also moved the text down to the center, because there is no text below it, so there is no point in putting it at the top. Besides that I look the colors and layout of the slide, and kept it the same.

Media Fluency(take 2)

Posted by Emily Stephens in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b1 on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 8:42 am

Growing up, I was always shy. I never spoke up or said how I was feeling. It all changed when I discovered musical theater, my gateway to music. I began to open up, and sing my heart out and express who I really was, finally breaking free from my shyness. After this, I was exposed to how powerful music can truly be. Now, music is what helps me through anything and everything. It motivates me and inspires me, and I don’t know who I would be without it.

I decided to dedicate my slide to the one thing that symbolizes who I am. A picture of a girl holding a record in front of her face symbolizes music, and also shyness. I liked the black and white aspect to keep things simple and to keep the mood calming and serious. It is a picture from Tumblr, because I wanted it to be artistic and unique. I made the font big and clear to see with varying font styles. The pink font made it pop and added a little bit of positivity with the contrasting “escape” to make that word stick out most because it is the end of the meaningful statement. This slide is simple like any good visual campaign should be. Sometimes, less is more and holds more value, but nothing like the value music holds to me.

Presentation Zen was a great source for me to use because it directed my presentation and gave meaning to it. I made the background white with a mainly black picture and bold, brightly colored lettering. I made the majority of my quote a pink color that seemed to fit my slide well. My last word, escape, which I find very symbolic, I underlined, changed the font, and made black to really stand out against the white. Presentation Zen gave the idea that having the one image used, to keep the focus simple, to have the image bleed off of the slide, which I chose not to do on purpose due to the fact my picture was a square and I liked the look better with having white bordering it. That’s my presentation!

Write about why you changed what you changed to make the new slide based on the feedback you heard about your first slide.

On my slide, I change to placement of the picture and I also change the exclamation mark at the end. I place the picture so that the black line is not seen on the top and I changed the exclamation mark to a period. I made those changes based on the feedback I heard on my first slide. They said that the line is too distracting and it will be better if I place the picture higher so the black line is not seen. They also said that I had too many fonts such as exclamation mark and I should change it to something more simple so I thought that a period is simple. I believed that the changes I made from the first slide made my slide better.

The reason i made the slide look the way it is was because people said that i was trying to put two slides in one. Also that the two topics i was trying to present in my previous slide didnt relate therefore i changed it to one slide and showed one topic.

Media Fluency- My Slide Re-done

HWellner - My Slide Redux
Originally, my slide was very similar to this, but with a few differences. The text was slightly smaller, and dropped down farther, which I changed so that it would stand out more, and catch more attention, as the suggestions I received told me. It was also in a different font, Arial, which I changed to Lora because I felt it fit in with the image and background of the slide better. The word Legend was also that same font color, as well as not italicized. I changed this to make the word Legend stick out more, and show more importance and impact. The text is now bold to stick out more, and the text is slightly darker, to not blend with the sky or mountains, like the suggestions I received told me to. For the most part, this and the original are very similar, but there are minor changes that both my peers and I feel make the slide much better.

Why did you make the slide look the way it does?
I made this slide the way it is because i wanted to make it unique and appealing. When we went over the “Presentation Zen Link” it said to make it bleed, make the word big, and the color should pop out. After that, i learned new ways to make the slide better in ways i never imagine i could and that what i did. I made the picture bleed of the slide and the word in all kind of fonts and different colors to make it pop up. I wanted the audience to see it and know what i mean by the quote and see do you relate.

What influenced your decision making?
The influence that made me make it this way is when you you show us that link, you went over it and taught us things which encourage me to make it have these thing such as making it bleed, making the word big, making it pop out. You gave us advice which helped me find idea of what to do to make it better. I used those and made it the way it is as shown in the picture above. I also found a link that gave me some tips on blogging for beginner. http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/beginner-blogger-mistakes in this link it said write like you talk. This help me influenced my writing by making the words be like it is talking.

Me Slide

Why did you make the slide the way you did?

The primary goal for me was to make sure that the picture being displayed would capture the attention of an audience, but would also clearly state the message I am trying to deliver. Makes things happen was put as the message and it means that you should not wait around for people to give you an opportunity or to just wait thinking that something will just happen. You have to go out there and do it yourself. My picture is supposed to represent the spark that begins the journey that you take on the way to your goal. You have to be the spark that ignites what is your life. The text is in large letters at the bottom so that you can see the picture in its entirety, but also notice what is being said. Because the background is primarily black, I chose to make the letters white so that they could stand out. The word happen is most important and it should stand out most so I made it red. The overall point was to connect an interesting eye catching picture with my message while making them balance each other out and over shadow one another.

JAMAL'S SLIDE

Why did you make the slide look the way it does? What influenced your decision making?

First of all, this slide has a background picture and a quote by me. I chose this background image because it represents how powerful technology can be used in our lives in a harmful way. The quote gives and example how modern day society is a affected by technology. Now I chose this topic for my slide it is affecting my life and life in general. Before everything used to be more natural and simple now things have to be complicated. For example, I remember when I could always hangout with and talk to my cousin when I visited him. Now he is always on his tablet and hardly gets off and talk to me when me and my family visit.

Technology is hands down my favorite thing. Without it I would not be typing this up now because I would not have a laptop or technology class. Therefore, the way my favorite thing (technology) affects society inspired and influenced me to make it as my topic for the slide.
