  • Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner

    - I spoke with a woman name janet and I chose her because she was also trying to learn spanish

  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

-I didn't get to learn much from her because once I said that I was in school she logged off the chat.

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?

-One thing that this did help me do was get a conversation started
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

    -
I was able to get a conversation started even though this person logged off the chat, and I'm going to continue to chat with people and help bring my confidence up of speaking spanish.

    • Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner

      - I spoke with two people but I forgot to screenshot my other chat because I accidentally quitted out of it. I had a nice long conversation with Rafael from Brazil in spanish. He was helping me a lot too but anyway, the chat that I've screenshot is the one below. His name is Vidal and he was from Venezuela.

    • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

      - I learned that he doesn't like running and he loves walking because he thinks it's relaxing.. I also learned that he likes learning new languages, he is currently learning japanese. I learned a couple of new words,

    • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?

      - Last week, I posted my blogpost saying I wanted to have an conversation and record it but I wasn't able to do that but I skimmed through sharedtalk. I really liked how you get to meet new people and they were really friendly. So I chose to chat with them and they helped me with asking questions and awkward phrasings.

    • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

      - I tried to keep my conversation going and for some part, I didn't know what else to ask because I ran out of questions to ask. Therefore, for next week, I'm definitely going to have a list of questions that I'd ask before talking to someone.

Goal #4: Be Natural

Posted by Longnu Nhan in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11:19 am

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
-I spoke with a guy who name is Luis Angel. The reason why I chose to speak with him is because he's from Mexico. All my other conversations were from people who lives in Spain.

  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
I learned that he's a very happy person. He's the type of person that always has a smile, no matter what. He doesn't like to be sad. Even at the toughest times, he wants to smile.

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
Well, my goal was to be natural with my conversation, it worked kind of well, but not really. During the time that I was talking to him, I was super happy and it was interesting to talk to a person who was also happy. What a coincident! I tried to natural with my typing and not having to double think about what to say, but when I did that, my sentence didn't make sense ): it sucked, but he corrected me.

  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I think I did well on pushing myself to say the right things.

  • What specifically do you need to improve on?
When I try to say a lot, I get all mixed up. So maybe I should stick with what I know instead of jamming a whole bunch of words together.

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with Cristy. She lives in Chile. I chose her because I liked her name and I knew she spoke Spanish.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

She was good at spanish, but needed help with her English. I learned a couple things from her. She helped me spell.
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

It helped me speak more spanish and try not to use a translator. Having her there to help me made me more confident.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I didn't translate. I did use word reference though. But for individual words, not whole phrases.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I would like to try to keep the conversation going.

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke with the same person I did for the first blog. His name is Alex, and he's from Columbia.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

For this conversation, we were speaking about a few different things. He was telling me about how he admired the United States... a lot. And we talked about his favorite food... which happened to be American food, and Columbian food. And we talked about movies.

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

With this only being our second conversation, I wasn't as nervous as before. But, he noticed that my responses were better than before. I feel a bit more confident in asking questions and replying.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I did better with asking questions, and being able to reply without much hesitation.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I think I should start making a little list of things to talk about during the conversations.

*Because my person is trying to learn English, he was responding to my questions in English.*

Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner

I spoke with Thea a senior at SLA. She is one of my friends who is fluent in Spanish and I felt comfortable talking to.

What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

She is reading a new comic series, I learned that talking to someone you know vs someone on livemocha is easier to keep a conversation because you know the basics about them.

Partner Samella

Donde es Brasil

Goal: Asking follow up questions.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?

I learned new things about Brazil and asked questions as much as I could about her and her college. Although  Some stuff I sai in english because she was learning english.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on?

I did well asking questions about her college and how she likes it. Wanted to ask others but she had to go when I thought of a good question.

Who did I speak to and why did I choose that person?
I spoke to Elizabeth from Venezuela and I picked her because like I said in class back then, I am more comfortable to speak to girls than speaking to guys. I also like her because she's nice and we're both learning how to speak different language. Me spanish, and her english. Our conversation was pretty brief because she said that she have to help her mom on something. She's pretty proficient in English already so she pretty much helped me the whole time.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

Talking to her helped me to speak spanish sort of fluently. I know I still have some problems on how to construct a good and grammatically correct sentence. But she helped me a lot and she even helped me to use some new vocabularies.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

The conversation was not awkward and kind of monotone-ish. Both of us are asking and answering things rather than one person doing the whole interaction.

What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I still need to speak Spanish fluently.

Ella-Yo nunca había estado en Puerto Rico, así que no sé. Pero por lo que mi familia me dice es que es hermoso y espero visitarlo pronto.

Yo-Esta Bien. Gracias Chica!

Reflection:

For my second conversation I again talked to Brianna Perrin. In this conversation I learned more about Brianna's culture. She is Puerto Rican and I learned about some of the traditions that her and her family have. I also learned some of the common foods in her culture. When I was coming up with the questions I realized that I forgot some basic words so this conversation was a nice refresher. I'm proud that I could keep the conversation going with saying more than just "esta bien" even though I did say it once. My improvement for the next time is to ask questions that will carry on a longer conversation.

Danny- 2nd conversación

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with a man by the name of Luis and he was from Mexico. I chose this person because he was close to my age (21)
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

He wasn't very good at english and when speaking to him he didn't seem to practice his english, rather he spoke spanish the whole time. He wants to learn english because he likes our music (eminem, linkin park, etc.)
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

Well the fact that he spoke only spanish forced me to not work with english at all, which was a bit challenging and i found myself quickly going to word reference to reply back to him.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I was able to improve on my vocabulary.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I would like to work a little on my conjugations and make sure I am getting them in the right tenses.

Allen - Conversacíon Post 2

Posted by Allen Yang in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 9:05 am

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with a guy named Emilio. I picked him because he was around my age group, and he was from Spain, I felt like speaking to someone who wasn't from South America.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

He had very fluent english, the guy likes videogames, not necessarily first person shooters. A fan of action movies, those much like The Terminator, also fight movies, his favorite is "Fight Club."
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

I think this time the conversation went more fluent, the guy had some similar interests with me, so it was easier to reply. I think I constructed my sentences better, and in some points I even decided to take out unnecessary words so that the vibe of the conversation was more casual.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I improved on my vocabulary even more than before. I also think the conjugation got better.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

It would be on the conjugations and I'm still struggling with some grammatical errors. "No puede espara "The Dark Knight Rises"

Yes, the man cursed a lot.
