  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke with Belén Belli, because she is around my age (19) and I thought it would make a good conversation

  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

I learned about her taste in music and different ways of phrasing what I wanted to say ( correctly).
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

It worked out pretty well, my goal was to keep a conversation going and it was pretty nice.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

Ask questions and make comments to keep up the conversation, always have something to talk about.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)rc

Phrasing basically, and using the wrong words, as you can see in the chat.

Proyecto de Conversación

Carlos N. from Spain

Who did I speak to and why did I choose that person?

I spoke to Carlos N. who lives in Spain from ShareTalk because I was just looking to speak to someone my age and he happened to be the only person online in my age group.

What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

I learned that Carlos was a typical Philly kind of kid. He went to school and would just hang out with friends, but he's more studious that a majority of the city.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

I don't think it really seemed helpful because I can't carry out conversations fluidly with strangers. In a way, I asked so many questions, it seemed like I was an online surveyor telemarketer person.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I guess the thing I did well was ask a lot of questions, I just couldn't make small talk out of it.

What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

The one thing I need to work on it making it flow well like an actual conversation rather than just saying "De donde eres?" then waiting for their response only to reply with another question.

Proyecto de Conversation (First Week)

Posted by Marley Utzig in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 8:41 am

First Week: 4/20/12

Iraidia

Philadelphia, US

Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner

I spoke with Iraidia because I wanted to talk to someone I was comfortable with to start this project off.

What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

I did not learn much about her, but she tried to teach me some common words like cuál is what, and maybe is quizá.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?

This interaction helped make me a tiny bit more relaxed with the language and also taught me some new words.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

One of my goals was confidence and working with a friend who was good at Spanish helped. I still have a lot of work to do and Iraidia was teasing me kindly about my use of the Spanish language since it is still quite choppy. I need to talk to more people outside of school because I will be speaking to people I can learn more about.

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke with girl from Barcelona, Spain. I chose to speak with her at random. She was the first name to appear on the list when I logged onto SharedTalk.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

In this conversation I learned that she enjoys the same type of music as me and she also likes to vist the tourist locations in Barcelona.

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

My goal was to improve my ability to respond quickly and maintain the flow of conversation. Talking with Kathlyn, I found it easy to keep up with what she was saying. She spoke in a way that felt normal for me.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I did well with being able to reply without hesitation and finding things to talk about .
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I think I need to work on not relying so much on WordRefrence. I used it a lot and it slowed the conversation at times.

Proyecto de Conversación - Jessica Hinton

Posted by Jessica Hinton in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 12:51 am

Partner: Alex. Bogota, Columbia (LiveMocha)
  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke with someone on LiveMocha. His name is Alex. I didn't really have anyone else to speak to. The person I wanted to speak with, wasn't available, so I spoke with him.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

We spoke about music for most of the conversation. So, I learned about his music preference.

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

Well, because I didn't know him, I was a little nervous. So, there were times during the conversation where I was making dumb mistakes. But, it helped me to realize, that I should be confident about using spanish.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I was able to hold a conversation. We spoke spanish for the entire conversation, unless I needed clarification.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

Like I stated above, I was making dumb mistakes. Like using "mucha" instead of "mucho" during one part in the conversation. So, I should be aware of the words I'm using, and where I use them.

Espanol blog de Tenzin Ngawang1

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

    - I spoke with my friend, Andora Myftaraj because she is a native spanish speaker and she is from Albania. I chose her for this assignment because we never talked in spanish before even when she speaks fluent spanish!

  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

    - I didn't learn anything about her per se because we did most of the things together this weekend. What I learned from her was that when you're talking in spanish, you really have to try and that avoiding google translators really helps and enables you to realize how much you really know.

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

    -
My personal goal was to keep a conversation going. I think I tried my best to keep that conversation because I asked as many questions as I could think of during that time. My other personal goal was to have a better pronunciation but that didn't happen because my conversation was on iChat. However, that's definitely going to be my next personal goal.

  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

    - I think I did well at asking questions like I said earlier and I believe I tried my best at using the right 'ser' form at points, like we've learned in earlier quarter. I also think I did well at understanding and writing even without using translator or wordreference.

  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

    - I realized after that when asking question, I forgot to put the upside down question in the front, like we usually do in class. After the talk, my friend and I started talking in english; reflecting on my way of speaking spanish and she said that some of the things I said were a little awkward but overall was good.

Mi Primero Conversación

Posted by Symone Smith in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 10:18 pm

Goal of this conversation: Practice getting to know someone using spanish.

Questions to ask:

¿Cómo se llamas completo?

¿Cuántos años tienes?

¿De dónde eres?

¿De dónde está tu madre?

¿De dónde está tu padre?

¿Qué te gusta hacer?

¿Qué comida te gusta?

La Conversation Uno- Con Brianna Perrin (Transcript)

Yo- Hola Chica!¿Como estas?

Ella- Hola! Estoy bueno, ¿y tu?

Yo- Yo también.Tengo muchas preguntas personales para tu. ¿Esta bien?

Ella- Si,esta bien.

Yo-Primero, cómo se llamas completo?

Ella-Brianna Beverly Perrin

Yo-Esta bien. ¿Cuántos años tienes?

Ella-Yo tengo diecisiete años.

Yo-Bueno.

Ella-Me gusta hacer muchas cosas. Depende del día y mi estado de ánimo. Pero me gusta mucho cantar, bailar, leer, escribir y dar largos paseos por el parque.

Yo-si, me gusta bailar tambien! ¿Qué comida te gusta?

Ella-Me encanta comer pastelillos de arroz con frijoles, tostones y Kit Kats.

Yo-jaja

Reflection:

I spoke with Brianna because she is a friend that I knew had grew up around spanish. Something new that I learned about her was that she is from Puerto Rico. Asking the questions I had prepared was kind of like a reminder of how to ask people about themselves and also how to tell people about myself. The more I practice the better I become, my goal is to just become better. I think I achieved my goal for this specific conversation. I learned more about Brianna. I need to work on making the conversation flow a little better rather than being more like an interview.

Conversation Trial 1

Posted by Chelsea Smith in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 10:08 pm

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

Kim Cayamcela from SLA. She is spanish and is a native speaker and also a close friend of mine so I wasn't too nervous.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

We talked about our weekends and that she is really great at spanish, I knew she was but we never talked in spanish before.

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

I was able to continue the conversation. She helped me with that and I was able to figure out what words to say to answer her questions and respond.

  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I kept talking in the conversation, I was able to figure out what to say and keep it going!

  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)e

My spelling really held me back, I kept messing up and having to * and re type to word. I might be able to speak it in conversation but ichating it is helping because I am worrying about my spelling as well as my goals.

Goal #1: Talk about the weather in Dominican Republic

Posted by Longnu Nhan in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Goal: My first goal is to talk about the weather with someone who is from a different country.
  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
-I chose to speak with my friend Nicole from Dominican Republic because she doesn't live in United States and I wanted to know more about her country.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
-I learned that DR has a lot of cyclones, rain, and thunderstorms. I'm guessing it doesn't snow because during the winter, the temperature can reach up to 60 degree. Usually, in the U.S. the temperature would be in the 30's.
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
-It helped me conjugate better and not hesitate so much. There were time where my sentence didn't sound right, but she corrected me. Because of that, I learned from my mistakes and I'm one step closer to understanding more spanish.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
-I think I did well on asking a lot of questions ans sticking to one topic instead of going all over the place.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
-Wrong sentence: "¿Pero no gusto que gente inventó acondicionadores de aire para los días calurosos?"
-Right sentence: Pero no le gusta que alguien inventó el aire acondicionado?
