Describe a day in the life

Posted by Diana Laufenberg in Globalization - Laufenberg on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 2:33 pm
For the average 12 yo (boy or girl, you pick) in your country that you focused on last week... what is the average day like.

Make a visualization of the day.. you can timeline it with pix, do something more creative.

But by the end of class on Tuesday you should have a representation of that day... with regard to education and health at a minimum... feel free to include more factors and indicators. Provide at least 5 CITED sources to your creation.

When you are done, link to it on SLA.org blogger - SLATE. Double check that your link works. In addition to the link, reflect on... how does this life compare that that of yours when you were 12? What was most surprising about your findings? What parts were expected? What do you think that 12yo's life will be like when they are 40? Describe it... what will have changed, what will have stayed the same?

Collapse'ability of Sudan and Vietnam

Posted by Aimee Leong in Globalization - Laufenberg on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:33 am

My Project here

During my research, I was able to see that Sudan and Vietnam was more similar than I thought. At first I thought they were totally random and different. But Sudan and Vietnam both have a very warm climate and are both affected by climate change. It was perplexing to figure out the different five frame points because while I did research, the frame points seemed to overlapped a lot of the times. It was a bit difficult because I was confused the more I researched the information. I was super unsure about what to put under the different topics, afraid that I would probably repeat myself. It was also a bit frustrating to decipher the information I was reading because most of it didn't match up and I didn't exactly know which one I could trust. But I was able to get the project done in a one piece.

Reflection

  • I chose Australia and The Netherlands because they are both very well developed industrious countries. It was interesting to see the prevalence of certain factors within each country. My 5 point frame work was pretty straightforward, I just researched how well developed or underdeveloped each country was in each section. If I could change something I would add more information to the economic categories.

Haiti and Madagascar Collapse-ability

Posted by Devon Thomas in Globalization - Laufenberg on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:27 am

The countries I selected for this project were Haiti and Madagascar. My current region is Central America and the Caribbean, where Haiti is and my previous region was Sub-Saharan Africa, where Madagascar is. Both of these countries are developing island nations. I chose these nations because I thought they were similar enough to compare together, yet different enough to have different environmental problems affect them. For each of the 5 point framework, including, Environmental Damage, Climate Change, Hostile Neighbors, Friendly Trade Partners, and their Response to Environmental Damage, each of the countries chosen had a different level of difficulty to find the information needed for each of these points. For example: finding the response to environmental damage for Haiti was much easier than finding it for Madagascar, because they are still recovering from a disaster. If I could change one thing about my project, I would change the countries I chose, I probably would not pick Madagascar as a country again because it was very difficult to find information about it.

Patty Waddy

She just yelled, "I don't need HAir!"

Patricia has allot of issues she needs to settle. I think that allot of the problems stem from home. She is extremely hostile and for a reason that is beyond my knowledge she LOVES to pic out imperfections from everyone around her; I think it's a counter jealousy affect.

at the moment she is writing something called, "please don't be mad if you don't see Katherine at graduation"
Truth is she is just mad that although things stand in my way from not always being in school everyday all my work is done and I can always pull my grade off.

She is currently wearing beige knee high boots; a lime green pair of sweat pants and a purple adida's zip up jacket/ sweater thing that is zipped all the way to her neck... what lies underneath is UNKNOWN. She is sporting pined up "curls" and a $22 dark tan bag she bought from the thrift store. Most likely along with the rest of her outfit. OBViOuSLY something is wrong.
Sad.

Q3 Benchmark on India and China

Posted by Kimberly Bush in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 7:02 pm

The countries that I selected were India and China. When I first chose these countries I thought that they were total opposites and in some ways they are. However, after researching them I realized that they are more alike then they appear to be. For example, India and China both have an air pollution problem. China worse than India, however, they are still trying to "fix" there environment by creating better policies even though both don't follow them. Also, China cares more about their economy than their environment and India is starting to act the same way by trying to increase their trading production.

In order to do this project I had to dig deep and find things that were recent. I looked through journals and blog sites that reported about recent policies of both countries. I knew that it was supposed to be a visual representation of the rates of the countries so I tried to make it as visually attracting as possible. At first, finding the information for the 5 point framework was hard because I didn't really know how I should base the ranking on. But after the second slide, I got the hang of it. If I could change one thing about my project it would probably be the countries that I picked. Doing this benchmark helped me realize a lot of what was going on in those countries and why they were the way they were.

A&A; Q3 Globalization Benchmark

Here Is My Benchmark

Reflection

During the 3rd quarter benchmark I deiced to do Austria & Australia because I thought the double A

would be clever. Coming into this I wasn't too familiar with these two countries besides fun facts so I

googled my butt off. The CIA factbook came in handy with getting an overview of different categories

of the countries.  Then I'd go in further on different subtopic of the main topic so I could elaborate

more on it and offer more info.  The climate change was actually surprisingly easy to gather it

straightforward info. Environemntal demage was hard because then you had to go into the country

dissect it and it was a pain. Also actually ratting it was hard because I didn't want to be too easy on

it then I forgot is 10 was great & 0 was bad. I would love to have done a video instead of pages

but I'm not that artistic enough to convey a good imove presentation.  I'm kinda nervous about the

whole plagiarizing thing so no I'm gonna go check to cover my butt.

Solomon Islands and Haiti

The countries that I choose where the Solomon Islands and Haiti. They are kind of the same when it comes to the problem that they have. But the only difference is that Haiti may have a little bit more to lose. The reason being you'll find out if you look at the link. The process was not all to difficult thanks to my teacher telling to try out CIA fact book. it worked well till i had to get to the hostile neighbors and the society reaction to environmental problems. For some reason they were just the hardest to find. But I did realize that when I did research that i found our book the "collapse". The frame work for it was super super straight forward. I it was easy to do so I had fun with. But it was a bit difficult so it made me think of how to work. I enjoyed the project. I would say if I could change one thing about it, it would be to have some sort of link that would help fine the last 2 questions so a person would spend their time wasted.

Anthony Seeley's Fiji Zambia project :D

Posted by Anthony Seeley in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 11:57 am

Fiji and Zambia collapsibility

The two countries I chose were Fiji and Zambia. Fiji is in Oceania, a very beautiful area were a lot of people tend to go on vacation at. Clear waters and very little environmental issues, Fiji overall is a place most people would dream of. Than Zambia, in Sub Saharan Africa suffers from dry season over occurring burn fires and many environmental issues. Zambia has issues with its neighbors and there are some issues going on inside of Zambia it self.

I knew how I wanted to present the information; I didn’t want anything too extravagant, I just wanted a simple display of the information reason behind the ratings that I gave each place. I just needed to know the information that I was presenting, which is moderately easy. I typed in what I wanted to find and the answers seemed to just be there for me so I just needed to put this information into my own words.

Although I didn’t want the most exciting project in the world, after I was done I thought that I could have put all this info into imovie and made a simple movie but other than that im pretty happy with my project.
