"Sample Podcast Title" by Ms. Pahomov

Posted by Larissa Pahomov in English 2 - Pahomov on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 7:48 am
Your preview paragraph goes BEFORE the audio file -- a short and sweet paragraph that gets the reader interested in your podcast. Give some clues or hints about the story, but don't give away everything! Write something so that your peers will want to listen to your work. It should be 3-4 sentences.

AUDIO FILES GOES HERE -- use the "multimedia" button to load it and make sure it plays without downloading

AFTER the audio files goes your written reflection. Target length for reflection: 300 words.

Prompt: What different things did you learn or realize while doing this project?

Possible categories for reflection:

  • • Crossing boundaries - what does it mean, causes and effects, cost and benefits
  • • The experience of doing interviews – what did you learn and discover, about others or yourself?
  • • Editing and producing your product – anything unexpected?
  • • Comments from your peers – agree or disagree, and why?
  • • Your own strengths or weaknesses

Why I Write.

Posted by Michael Roth in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:13 pm

I hardly ever write by choice, I've tried keeping a journal but only filled out a couple lines every few years. I write when my teachers tell me to. When I write, I prefer to write based on prompts, because I can write most effectively when I write about something I remember or my opinions. I hate writing papers where it's my job to convey my findings of an experiment or teach people something that I learned on the internet. I usually hate writing in general, but sometimes that's not the case. When I wrote a vignette, a snapshot from my life and the events surrounding it, learning something new about the world, I loved it. I loved the writing process, I loved how the words flowed together and I was proud of my piece of art, my writing. When I wrote about another moment in my life, a moment that gave me another deeper understanding of life that I will forever remember, I loved it. Seeing the words come from me and reading them with a sense of almost awe, I realized that writing isn't all bad. In fact, sometimes it's great. I could have stopped in the vignette, left it a certain length and edited what I had already, but instead something compelled me to write more; I needed to give my story the telling that it deserved. Paint a picture on the canvas that is the minds of others using words as my paintbrush, and put them where I was when I lived that part of my life. Make them feel the emotions I felt, think the way I thought, have them relive a part of life that they had never lived in the first place, and give them the experience of it being their own. I write not for my teacher, not for myself, but for the world, for any passing wanderer of the internet to see my work and live my experience. To share something that otherwise may never have been shared. To leave humanity with a part of me.

"Why I write"

Why I write?....

Sometimes I write because I am forced. Either for a journal prompt, an essay, a project, a letter, e-mail that has to be sent and various other things. Sometimes I write to get my feelings out. If I need to just write down something instead of saying it to people or spazzing out on people, for a lack of a better term. I write because it can be helpful. You can say anything and the pen, pencil and paper won't judge you or say anything. IT helpful sometimes just to have quiet time just to relax a write. Sometimes I write because I have to write the homework down for a checklist so I know what work I have to do. Sometimes I write because my computer isn't working. There are times I want to write and times I don't want to to write. But either way forced or not, I write. No matter when I write, I always feel like I writer even if I think my writing is bad. This is why I write.

"Why I Write"

Posted by Jamekea Lee in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:12 pm

I write because it makes me happy.
I write because it's how I express myself.
I write because it's apart of who I am.
I write because it takes me places.

If you was to ask me,
I just gave you my answers.
If your still confused let me say more.

I was stuck on the moon with only a pencil and notebook,
I'll write my way back to earth.
Get it ??

If you don't I'll put it in this prospective,
If I was a artist,
I'll draw my way back to earth.

When I write I get this joy in my spirit,
that tells me everything will be alright.
Don't judge me,
When I say,
"Writing is fun."
We all like different things,
So we can't I like to write.
Don't judge me,
When I say,
"I nearly failed English last year."
Don't judge me,
When I say,
"I can't write a paper."
Just know I write for fun.
Not when it's required.

I hate writing essays,
but I love being creative when I write.
I can't write about a world event,
But I can write about my day.
I can make up people and give them everything.
But I can't write about somebody real and what they have.

Anyways,

I write because it makes me happy.
I write because it's how I express myself.
I write because it's apart of who I am.
I write because it takes me places.
I write because it's inside of me.

Why wouldn't I write?

Posted by Anthony Best in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Writing is creation. Unless, of course your writing what someone else wrote, then it's just copying. But if the question is why I write, the answer must be the need to create. Creation is the son of adapting. Adaptation is a basic, yet complex part of being human. Writing is a form of creation. Let's recap: Writing is adapting. Usually the motivation to write is a teacher or the promise that good grades equal better money. All in all I very seldom find myself writing for myself, writing for my "now".

I write because...

Posted by Victoria Odom in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:12 pm

I write because it helps me to express my feelings by typing or writing them down on paper.

I write because although actions speak louder than words, words sometimes can make a difference in life

I write because sometimes written humor can brighten someones day

I write because I feel free to tell a story to and audience or myself

I write because through these words it explains who I am

I write because when I write, I write for myself not for others

I write because things that are written down show proof, rather than speaking with hear say

I write because it's a way to empty your mind when stress takes over

When words come to my head from the long lost plane of my imagination, I Write
When things need to be said that need undivided attention, I Write
To put my mark on the world to let people know I exist, I write
To remember keys that will open doors to my future, I write
When I write I force people to listen,
Written words do not bear any overtones ,
They can't change meaning,
They come to you intact, uncorrupted,
And bear as much felling as they did when you wrote them

"Why I Write"

Why I write is to explain a side of me that many people don't get to see.
Writing comes from with in, but the writing i write is the writing that i see in everyday life.
I started writing poems and 5th grade and loved it.
Poems from Nameless to Birthday Cards.
Through middle school it was the same old.
In high school I started to write raps.
I don't why but i want to write a script for a movie.
In school writing comes easy to me because I can talk about a lot in one paragraph and still have more to talk about.
Not to brag but can write a two page paper in about 30 mins. depending on the topic.
And I guess that is really it.

Why I write

I'm writing this cuz I have to. I write because I feel like it. I don't need a reason, if something pops in to my head and I think "Hey that could make a good book" then I write it down. I never have as much fun with writing when I'm told to do it. Being told what to write, how to write it, and why always makes my writing dry. I prefer to write where I can decide what to write and not need to explain why.

Why I Write...

Posted by Alisha Clark in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:04 pm

I write because I feel beautiful. The words flow threw me and out the my fingers where they sprout on paper. The white paper being transformed by my inner thoughts. The white paper being tattooed in ink. My hand making perfect motions across the page as I finish my last sentence leaving a masterpiece behind. But, never forgotten. Writing makes it easier. Something so simple could be your best friend at times when your back is pinned against the wall. It keeps you close. While the light shines down over you, you can reach and actually taste you dreams. No judging is involved but just the time and love. I write because I'm free. Really free. It breaks down the walls of everywhere and lets you fly away like a bird . Nothing nor no one could stop you. You could do anything your heart desires even the most ridiculous things you may have in mind. But, that's why I write. Why do you?

Personal Experience (Performance)

Posted by Jordan Hairston in English 2 - Pahomov on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 9:16 am

This was the fifth time I was here. On the stage where I felt safest, yet again I was paralyzed just as before. With the toughest critics I actually knew, there they were. Waiting, watching.

“Jordan!” Joy whispered from backstage.

Damn! Why did I just get up here? I though to myself.

The audience waited for me to start and seen that something was wrong with me. They knew this was what I loved to do. Perform. Sing, dance, and play the piano. So what was the reason for the delay? The truth was because I was nervous about playing in front of them. Ever since my last performance, it took me a long time to perform in front of them again.

“Jordan, what are you waiting for? The microphone is on and the piano is tuned so start.”

“Okay.”

I turned towards everyone and spoke.

“Today I’m going to be play “Fur Elise” on the piano. Yes I know you wanted me to sing but maybe next time. I said with a brief chuckle.

I turned back to the grand piano with a sudden shock of courage.

Throughout the song I heard comments of appreciation from my class and that made me even more courageous to continue to play. I was happy I was back here and knew that I could not stop my dream just because off the small errors and snickers from people. The opinions that people had of me stopped mattering to me the longer I played. This performance took place in eighth grade and the one that stopped me from playing was in sixth. Two years it took me to come back out of my shell of fear. That will never happen again. I love the things I do too much to stop again. I love music. I love my dream.
