The Sunset Wind

Posted by Angel Keav in English 1 · Giknis · Y Band on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 2:59 am

Hey, this is my multi-narrative story, “The Sunset Wind.” I made this one how I like most of my stories, emotional. It’s about 2 brothers Mack and Dylan. Mack had an accident and went into a coma. After 3 years he wakes up. Now he has to cope with losing 3 years of his life.

The Unreserved Fate

Posted by Tiffany Zhang in English 1 · Giknis · Y Band on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 2:28 am

My multi-perspective narrative takes inspiration from Far From the Tree’s three rotating perspectives. My story also utilizes Benway’s techniques to move to plot forward. While still answering the essential questions, it also includes dark and violent elements (my favorite). Enjoy!

Falling Apart

Posted by Austin Banks in English 1 · Giknis · Y Band on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 12:07 am

This Story is about two siblings who have grown up as best friends. There is a party that is happening today and they’re deciding if they should go. This is inspired by Robin Benways Far From The Tree because it is a multi narrative story that is mainly about family. It also shows a bond between 2 family members and how their bond is being built back together. With this being said I hope you enjoy the story.

Beginnings and Endings

Posted by Nora Diffily-Kenney in English 1 · Giknis · Y Band on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 10:23 pm

My story, “Beginnings and Endings” is centered around mother and son finding ways to accept and love each other in challenging circumstances. In Benway’s “Far From The Tree” it closely following three siblings finding each other and finding/accepting themselves and their obstacles. Though those ideas are slightly different, Benway inspired the way I wrote my story and influenced my decisions about snapshots, thoughtshots and motif.

The Tranquility in Fire

Posted by Brooke Johnson in English 1 · Giknis · Y Band on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 9:45 pm

The following story is in a multi narrative format, inspired by Robin Benway’s book Far From the Tree. While Far From the Tree has three narrators, my story only has two. Benway’s book is related to an estranged family finding each other, while my story approaches the topic of reuniting with family after tragedy occurs. Both pieces introduce the idea of what it means to be a family. Finally, the story elements that arise within my story are influenced by the techniques that are shown in Benway’s art. These elements include a snapshot, thoughtshot, motif, dialogue, and the use of dramatic irony.

Ink Stains

My short story reflects the “chosen family” trope through three friends who all see each other as their family. The story was inspired by Robin Benway’s “Far From the Tree” through my artistic choices through the writing, characters, and relationships. I utilized a few of her writing characteristics and overall the idea of what it means to be a family.

Finding

Posted by Ryan Suprijanto in English 1 · Giknis · Y Band on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Finding is about two people, and how they met. They are trying to find their paths in life and so happens that both of theirs intersect. Instead of their path interecting and passing straight through they intertwine into one. This story is also inspired by Robins Benway FFTT on what does it meant to be family.
