Creating Hyperlink in Markdown for Slate

Posted by Amal Giknis in English 1 · Giknis · A Band on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 10:29 am

To create a hyperlink in Slate, you need two things: 1.) The text that you want to appear, and 2.) The actual URL

Then, you need to use the Markdown formula to enter both elements. Enter the text inside the brackets, then the URL inside the parentheses. Do not include a space between them, like this:

The outcome is this: Link text Here

For Real This Time

My story follows a young boy, Flynn, learning to fall in love again after he tragically lost his sister when he was small. But what happens when he doesn’t know that she’s been watching him all along? This story shows the heartbreak of a passed person watching someone let them go.

Twin Reflection

This story is about twin brothers.

I was inspired by how much dramatic irony and plot twists created the rollercoaster of emotions of Far from the Tree. I loved and really took to heart, how you can express so much in so little and introduce it as the story progressed.

Basically a story about 2 kids of different socioeconomic statuses becoming friends, but that friendship is put to the test after they get into an argument. Can they get out of this hurdle, or will they remain enemies?

The East Edge

This story is about 3 people who are connected in a weird way. It’s a roller coaster of emotions between two characters and may take another read to fully understand. I request that you read the authors note before reading the actual text. Thank you so much and enjoy.

The Crash By: Madison George

Posted by Madison George in English 1 · Giknis · A Band on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 9:01 pm

The Crash, is about a group of kids who crashland in the woods. They have to figure out how to survive, with no idea if, or when they are being saved. It’s inspired by Far From The Tree because I try to use her writing techniques, as well as creating a story where everyone has a different experience with family. I love how she had them come from different backgrounds and were so different, yet still came together to be a family. I hope you enjoy, and have a good time reading.

The Cake

Posted by Hannah Stein in English 1 · Giknis · A Band on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 6:39 pm

My story, "The Cake", depicts the struggles of a family that trying to celebrate their daughter Olivia's graduation. This story is inspired by Robert Benway's "Far From the Tree" which also portrays the difficulties of a family. Benway's use of writing techniques such as motifs and dramatic irony can be seen throughout my writing. I hope you enjoy!
