Really people...

Posted by Aidan Rios in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:54 pm

Alright, well this time i did reasearh on why exactly are young adults dropping out of school. There are many reasons why such as teen pregnancy, students not putting in enough effort or students just giving up. But according to many different graphs, the order based by race is always in the same order no matter what. For an example, in the graph below, 93.3% of white students graduated school and continued their studies in college and then got their bachelor's degree. As for black students, their is a 87% percentile that they graduate high school and continue their studies in college. Lastly with a percentile of 63.2% are the hispanics.

Now, as i mention before, the reason why whites are always in first is because well they take their future very very seriously or because they are forced by their parents to do good in school. So, for that they always study hard and really don't play around with their life. Now, as for blacks and hispanics, the majority of us just go to school to hang out with friends and start truble. But no all of us are like that. There could be reasons why we do so poorly like family problems or because we just don't understand the work that is given to us. But, i think that if teachers and parents help their children pay more attention in school and actually pay mind to them then maybe just maybe Blacks and Hispanics can be on the number one spot instead of the whites.

So, basically what im trying to say is that if teens just take their life more seriously then just play around all the time then maybe they can make their race look good instead of making every other person of the same race look bad and that their not smart because there are some teens that are very very smart but they can show off because when people look at graphs like the one below they think that there is no point in wasting their time to check every other black or latino child. So, people, please don't make your race look like a joke...

Disaster From Mother nature

0114-haiti-earthquake-death-toll.jpg_full_600

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog. This is going to be my last blog forever. So, enjoy my blog abut the Haiti earthquake. The Haiti earth quake had  a magnitude of 7.0 not as much as japan but the death toll was just off the roof. On January 12, 2010 at 4:53 p.m a total of 3 million people in need of emergency aid after the earthquake. The earth quake sent about 33 after shocks form 4.2 to 5.9.The Inter-American Development Bank said it was immediately approving a $200,000 grant for emergency aid. But Haiti needed more than this. Unlike japan Haiti didn't have all the awesome electronics and buildings like japan. The Haitian government reported that an estimated 316,000 people had died, 300,000 had been injured and 1,000,000 made homeless. Its a tragedy of how many people died. But if i was in the earthquake know that i have a 95% chance of dieing i would of just dug a whole and stayed there until i die or get survived. It seems fun, or maybe i won't have time to think and just start running around. Even though japan had a bigger earthquake they didn't lost alot. Now i understand that, that is the reason why Haiti got all this attention, but not japan. Well this is my last blog, hope you guys enjoyed it. Thanks for ready about what i have to say about the recent natural disaster that happen. I know as of today more had happen but ill just leave it off with Haiti for now.

The Jasmine Revolution Pt. 3, the Civil War in Libya

Posted by Seamus Kirby in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:48 pm

This is last of 3 blog posts in my school project called "You and the World." I chose to research the Jasmine Revolution for this project, and I divided up my blog posts in the three main countries to revolt in this event. I started with Tunisia, where the entire revolution began. My second post was about Egypt, a more famous revolution, where the majority of people began to take interest in the revolution. In this last blog post I will write about the ongoing Civil War in Libya, between the rebels and the supporters of dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Muammar Gaddafi took power in 1969 after the overthrow of King Idris I, and has maintained power by placing people from his tribe in positions of power in the government. The Civil War began with peaceful protests which started in February 15, and the protests quickly spread throughout the country. Gaddafi's response was censorship and military force, which caused the peaceful protests to escalate into an all out civil war. The rebels want take Gaddafi out of power, and hold democratic elections; while the supporters of Muammar Gaddafi are mainly from his tribe, and receiving special benefits from this.

The first place taken by the rebels was Benghazi, the second largest city in Libya. The conflict began 3 days after the protests, when security forces began firing live ammunition into the protests. A funeral procession went by the main government compound, and were shot at by security forces. They responded by attacking back, and eventually retreated. This happened two more times, and the third time a suicide car bomber destroyed the gates of the compound under cover of the funeral procession. Libyan rebels eventually took the compound, but to take the city hundreds of people died, including 130 soldiers who were executed when the refused to shoot at the protesters. This civil war is still happening, and the UN has declared a "no fly zone" over Libya, to prevent Gaddafi from using planes to kill rebels. The US has fired a missile into Libya, and there are UN troops there to prevent war crime.

There were protests in other countries, but Tunisia, Egypt, are the only places to have succeeded so far, and Libya is the only place where there has been an all out civil war. Only time will tell whether any other countries will join this movement, or whether Libyan rebels will succeed in overthrowing Muammar Gaddafi. This has been the final of my three blog posts on the Jasmine Revolution.

Another Mass Murder: Part 3

Posted by Roberto Abazoski in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:47 pm

Heeey ! So sadly, this is the last blog post that I will be putting up. I enjoyed writing these, and I hope you enjoyed reading them.
Last week, I said I would continue research on the "cure" there is. Unfortunately, there isn't a cure, but the way you can get treated for cancer is by chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and or surgery. There are vaccines also, but they are only to decrease the chance of getting a certain type of cancer. The vaccine is to prevent HPV, and preventing that decrease the chances of getting cervical cancer. I also found that there are natural cures, they include mind-body interventions, herbs, massages, acupuncture, reiki, and electrical stimulation devices. There are many of doctors that support and tell their patients about this, but most stick to the surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. I think it is dumb for most doctors to not even give this option to their patients if this can save their life. If doctors told my grandpa about these natural cures, I would probably still be with him today. Now I can tell my other grandpa on how to stop his tumor from growing back and see if these actually work.
Well, this is the end of my blog for cancer. Will there ever be a cure to stop this mass murderer? The world may never know...

More people are helping!

Posted by Jessica Maiorano in English 1 - Dunn on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 11:59 pm

In my previous blogs I wanted to know about why people do this to the animals and the research that I just found gave me some reasons why they do this. Some act on sadistic desires, some act unintentionally, some harming pets with there carelessness. One of the main topics why is systemic the choices we make as a collective. People abuse children’s pets to coerce them into sexual abuse or to keep the children quiet about them the parent’s crudity to them. Also the children harm the animals because they want to take our there anger on another victim.

Ways you can help if you know this is happening or not, help the organizations retrieve the animals left behind. If you know someone who cannot take care of there pet find someone who can or call an animal association. If people have problems with animals try and help them through it, everything you do helps.

Pets are a big part of people lives did you know that a child in the U.S is more likely to have a pet then live stay at home father. Did you know that most American Homes have pets then children? Did you know every year 100 million animals die in experiments and tests? Did you know that 70% of the abusers also committed other crimes?  The Internet is one of the biggest sources to find out facts about this topic. This still will be happening even if we are saving some. So if more people know then they can help to. This is my last blog post there was two more about animal cruelly, what I should do is continue my research and find out more because this an strong topic and not only is it with animals but also with children and it should stop now.

Embryo's Gift To Mankind

Posted by Devante Taggart in English 1 - Dunn on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 1:55 pm

New stem cell research might lead to more cloning experiments especially after the breakthrough with Dolly the sheep. Also stem cell research is leading to curing many diseases. Many experiments they do on animals have showed superb results that will soon be taken to the human stage to see if those experiments show good results also. They have been doing experiments on many animals but sheep and rats show the best results because they are cloning sheep and curing many diseases that the rats have. They are also finding many other sources to find stem cells. The best to use are embryonic stem cells but they are finding ways too get stem cells out of adult humans/animals.

In this diagram you can see that the have used stem cell research on rats to stop heart failure.

How Many Wars Are There?

Posted by Aaron Van-Buren in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 9:07 pm

War On Terror

In the last blog I said I would answer the questions I didn’t get a chance to answer yet.  One question was “Why did it take us so long to find Osama Bin Laden?” Some may say that he was hiding to good for us or when President Bush was asked this question he said “Because he’s hiding” but that means we need to find him right.  Also some may say that the counterterrorism team had change their course of finding him to the American war against Iraq.

Another Question was “How does the families fell about Osama Bin Laden’s death?”  They are happy about the Death of Osama Bin Laden but some around not under standing why President Obama was so low-key about speaking on the death and how he wasn’t answering questions about the whole 9/11.

Let’s get into the U.S. Military!  The United States Military has the Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force.  Imagine How many gangs are in the United States of America?  Now think about the same gangs that kill, sell drugs and go to jail, which are the same soldier that we train and support everyday.  Not all solider are in gangs but when you see pictures of Gang tangs over sea’s where the U.S. is fighting, I believe that is disturbing.

Look forward to a continuation of this topic. The plan for the future is to go farther in research to explain more on this topic to the world. BYE see you next time!

Medical Marijuana, an Answer to Diseases.

Posted by Jhonas Dunakin in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 3:09 pm

Marijuana serves the human race in many different ways including medicine. The use of medical marijuana has been used for thousands of years, Surprisingly enough marijuana has been used in medicines dating back to 2737 BC according to the Mohamed Ben Amar who studies ethnopharmicology. According to Abel Ernest’s Marijuana: The First Twelve Thousand Years it was first used by Ancient Chinese doctors, the doctors used the plant and turned it into an oil which was used to treat wounds, eruptions, and falling of the hair. As a matter of fact Marijuana is one of the fifty different fundamental herbs used in Chinese herbal medicine. In the third century CE a physician known as Hua Tuo who was and still is respected by many physicians first used Marijuana powder as an anesthetic during surgery. In ancient Egypt the Ebers Papyrus describes medical marijuana and says to use hemp to treat hemorrhoids. According to ancient texts from India and the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs Indian doctors used Marijuana to treat headaches, insomnia, and gastrointestinal disorders, to relieve the pain from childbirth. According to Haworth Press in ancient Greece they not only used Marijuana to treat human diseases but for veterinary medicine. They used marijuana treat wounds and sores that horses encountered. In humans marijuana was used to treat nosebleeds and to expel tapeworms. It was also used to treat pain for ear inflammation. In medieval Islamic society marijuana was used as a diuretic, antiemetic, antiepileptic, anti-inflammatory, painkiller, and as antipyretic. Some of you readers might be thinking, some of these things we already have treatments and cures for. We use Tylenol, Advil and Vicodin as painkillers, and Ignatia to treat worms why would we need marijuana anymore? These were some of the most advanced societies in the world at the time when it cam to medicine. Even in European medicines at the time were based off of all these societies. But the truth is without these ancient medicines we wouldn’t have the drugs we have today. If we approve the use of marijuana doctors can make more medicines that will prevent more diseases. Your proof is here, marijuana does more good than bad for our society, history has proven it.

One Shot Man Down Pt 2

Posted by Sterling Perry in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 3:08 pm

One Shot Man Down Pt 2

In the last blog I talked about the reasons why people join gangs, the different ethnicities of gangs and how gang violence is overlooked. Another factor I didn’t include in the last blog was the media today. Do you think that the music we listen to and games we play or shows we watch influence gang violence and activity? (please comment)

Now gangs are multiplying and are spreading out into unsuspected places such as suburban areas and even the military.  Members of nearly every major street gang, including the Bloods, Crips, Black Disciples, Gangster Disciples, Hells Angels, Latin Kings, The 18th Street Gang, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), Mexican Mafia, Nortenos, Surenos, Vice Lords, and various white supremacist groups, have been documented on military gangs. According to the FBI Gang Report (here) our country (in 09) had at least 200,000 gangs coast to coast. Also 1/3 acts of violence are gang related. So I end this blog with the question can gang violence be stopped?
