Quarter 3 Art

Posted by Davonte Martin in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 12:29 pm

Introduction

After completing the drawings assigned, I realized that the hardest drawings were the ones involving people. For example both self portraits and the life size drawing was really hard because I've never been good at drawing human characteristics on paper. So when drawing eyes, nose(s),  and eye brows on my pictures, I thought it was very difficult. But other than the "human" drawings. I found everything else fairly easy. My favorite drawing was the hand, which was our first project because it was the only piece where I drew basic shapes and started to construct life like hands from there. The shapes I had drawn were 5 rectangles to represent each finger and the thumb, and triangle to represent the palm. I think I was successful at drawing the details in my pieces. For example in one of my drawings I drew shadows of standing objects. Having a drawing a week helped me a lot  with my over all progress because I noticed that I was able to be more accurate and precise when drawing lines and shapes. I don't think the teacher should have done anything different but allow the students to pick what they wanted to draw just to have more variety. I don't think I could have done anything differently but pick different pieces to draw.

End of the Period Project

Inspiration: Leanardo DaVinci

I chose to do my project about Leanardo DaVinci because when I think of art, my initial reaction is Leanardo DaVinci's pieces. His work(s) of art are a mystery until this day and I find that very interesting.

Mona Lisa: Mona Lisa is one of Leanardo DaVinci's  most famous works of art. No one knows who the woman in the picture is supposed to portray. Historicist guess that the picture is of Leanardo DaVinci's wife. The interesting aspect about Mona Lisa is that no one knows if she's smiling or if it's her natural facial expression.

Lola Akinsola Artist Focus: Pablo Picasso

Posted by Omolola Akinsola in Advanced Art - Hull on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 9:32 pm

I chose Pablo Picasso because I love his style. I should say styleS because he was cable of doing so many things. I found that very inspirational so I decided to do my paintings like I was him. Of course, my work isn't as great as his but when I look at my paintings I still see Picasso. I love the abstract and cubism he uses in his pieces so I incorporated both into my pieces.

De'Lesha's Art Work

Posted by Delesha Jackson in Advanced Art - Hull on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 9:20 pm

This quarter in art class our teacher decided to have us create something new every week. It was very unusual because we never did things this way, so it was hard. We had to complete 7 drawings and an artist statement. Doing this assignment was one of the hardest in my opinion that we have ever had to do in this class, because we had a time limit for each drawing we had. There was dealing with the feeling of will i finish in time and also is my art presentable. I thought this was interesting and kind of a good thing. A good thing because it really brought out the art in the class and me and I didn't expect that at all, interesting because it showed how much faith our teacher had in us and our abilities. Some of the drawings I created I thought could've been better but that's the life of an artist.
At the very end, the last three photos are ones that to me represented spring. This was the one additional assignment that was created last minute. I decided to do this because it seemed as though it was more for me and more of my character.

3rd MArking perion Advanced Art 2

Posted by Brooke Thompson in Advanced Art - Hull on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 9:47 pm

For this marking period are art class became more structured. Instead of our normal on big art project we were acted to do a couple of different task such as, still life drawings, self portraits, clear figure drawling and more. When first learning how to draw real life figures I want to good at it because it wasn't something I was used to. But as the period progressed I began to get better and you can notice that in my work as well. This picture of mine that I like the most is the still life. I feel like I took the most time on it and it really captured what it would look like in real life. Below are pictures of my art work.

INSPIRED BY ART HISTORY - WE STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

For our last project of the marking period we were asked to do something involving art history.Whether it be inspired by a artist or a style of art we had to create something that could represent it. We were  given a varity of choices as to how we are going to present and I chose to pick 3-6 pieces from art history and create a 6 hour drawing that reflects the inspiration and the theme of spring. And the artist I was inspired by was Vincent Van Gogh. When looking through his paintings I noticed a lot of flowers and art work that reminded me of spring. So I decided to do my own painting of flowers inspired by 3 different pieces of Vabn Gogh's work. Below are his paintings that inspired me and mine as well.

Advanced Art BM3

Drawing these specific figures and items were interesting but challenging. My favorite out of all seven of them would have to be the pencil drawing of my hand. It's simple because it's a hand, 5 fingers and a palm. But what made it so compelling was all the details and features that had to be portrayed, i.e the way the hand is positioned, shadows, and the hundreds of lines thats on your hand.

Surprisingly I did a good job on my self-portrait. I think that was my most successful drawing because I doubted myself before I drew it. Once I go the outline of of face I knew from that point on I was going to do okay. A good start off for me is a success. The charcoal drawing of the snapple was also successful because it looks exactly like a peach snapple bottle and I didn't have a hard time doing it at all.

Drawing for a week was a bit draining but because all of my drawing were done and successful it was intriguing. At first I really thought I was going to crack and give up. But once I finished one drawing and seen how good it came out, that pushed me to keep going.

Lola Akinsola's Bunch of Drawings

Posted by Omolola Akinsola in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:27 am

For this marking period I had a lot of difficulties drawing these pictures. I'm not good at drawing from life and I am absolutely terrible at shading. The most difficult drawing for me was the hand. My hand has two totally different shades and it felt impossible to blend the two shades in like it looks on my hand. So instead of having a nice blend of dark and light shades I had a straight line dividing the two shades, making it look even more unrealistic. I also had a problem matching up where the shades were on my hand. Where the division of shades is on my hand is not a straight line so when I tried so draw the rest of my hand it came out inaccurate due to the confusion of the lines.
The second most difficult drawing was the clear bottle drawing. The hardest part of this was, of course, figuring out where to shade the dark and light spots of the container. Anyone would think that a clear container has no dark or light spots because it has no color. However, when you look at an actual drawing of one you do see some gray and black shading here and there. Another problem I had with this drawing was the curves of the container. The pitcher that I was drawing had a lot of curves and detail and it was hard to make those visible the same way it was visible when I was drawing it. Also, the lines that went up and down the pitcher were sort of round so it threw me off when I was drawing it and made my lines look crooked.

Surprisingly, the easiest thing for me was the cluster of objects on the table. I personally liked this drawing the best. I did have some trouble drawing it, but it was not as tedious as all of the others. The shapes were much easier to make out than the others. The second easiest was the self-portrait. The problem that I had with the self-portrait however, was the shading of course. I had no clue how to determine the dark and light spots on my face so instead of applying more charcoal to the picture I just tried to bring out as much color from the sides as possible and onto my face and chest. It doesn't look like I shaded it that much but it is better than if I had applied more charcoal to the picture. Lastly, the full portrait that I draw of Trevor was in the middle. It was easy to make out the outside shape, but once I got to the actual detail drawing it became very complex. The eyes and the lips were all uneven and crooked, but overall I think I did okay.

Through weeks of art class progressively i have been learning how to shade and create still life scenes into a detailed expression with out the use of colors but the tones of dark and light. Of course, like every artist, there is needed work of the position where my light source is coming from but other wise much time and effort has been applied to show my best art.

This quarter in our Art class, our main focus was working with pencil and charcoal and learning new skills. We developed basic skills of drawing hands, self portraits, clear bottle drawings, etc. There were many strengths of this quarter's projects. One was the effort we all put in it. We all work hard and tediously to complete our projects. Below, are all of our projects
. For our last project of the marking period we were asked to do something involving art history.I chose to draw a 6hour drawings from art history that reflects the inspiration and the theme of spring. I was inspired by abstract expressionism. The paintings up this time included multiple shapes and colors. Above is the final product.
